Editorial Policy

Last updated: 1 October 2026

LancasterFinder.co.uk aims to be useful before it aims to be loud.

Our standards

We try to:

  • use the most precise locality, neighbourhood, district, riverside and venue name available;
  • distinguish Lancaster city from Morecambe, Heysham, Carnforth, the Lune Valley, the coast and the rural district;
  • distinguish Lancaster City Council from Lancashire County Council and neighbouring authorities;
  • identify the exact geography of Lancaster Castle, Priory, Cathedral, St George’s Quay, Lancaster Station, Bailrigg and Royal Lancaster Infirmary;
  • distinguish ordinary-day travel from university, event, football, canal, coastal and countryside conditions;
  • check live information against official or first-party sources;
  • identify opinion, sponsored content, affiliate content and advertising clearly;
  • avoid unsupported rankings, stereotypes and claims about communities;
  • use first-hand experience only where it genuinely happened;
  • correct material errors promptly;
  • treat businesses, residents and contributors fairly.

We do not turn Lancashire, Morecambe Bay or the wider North West into Lancaster-only facts. We do not describe Morecambe, Heysham, Carnforth, Preston, Blackpool, Kendal, Cumbria or Wyre venues as Lancaster venues by default. We do not flatten the historic city, university, river, canal and district geographies into one generic local area.

Commercial independence

Payment, free entry, hospitality, affiliate commission or a commercial relationship must not guarantee a positive editorial outcome. Sponsored or commissioned content will be labelled. Advertisers do not receive control over independent editorial decisions, subject to factual review of claims about their own business.

Time-sensitive information

Event dates, prices, opening hours, rail and bus services, castle and cathedral access, canal conditions, hospital services, football fixtures, venue arrangements, planning status and countryside conditions may change. We include an update date where useful and encourage readers to confirm important details directly.
